Goodbye, winter silhouettes!
Take another good look at the beautiful silhouettes of the plants you left in place this winter. They were so beautiful! Those graceful grasses and spent flowers gave your garden a wonderful texture throughout the winter. But now it’s gradually time to cut them back and make room for new shoots.
You can prune grasses and dry branches back to just above the ground. You don’t have to throw away the organic material you cut off! Once chopped into small pieces, you can scatter it back into your flower bed as natural mulch. This not only helps nourish the soil but also keeps weeds at bay.

A layer of compost: show your soil some love
Give your (fruit) trees and shrubs a layer of fresh compost. Ideally, use compost from your own compost bin—it’s sustainable and perfectly in line with ecological gardening. Don’t have a composting system yet? Now is the perfect time to start! Check out my previous blog post on composting for helpful tips. Don’t have your own compost? No problem! You can also find good-quality compost at any garden center.
Time to prune
You can still prune most fruit trees and berry bushes until early March. After that, leave them alone for a while so they can sprout and bloom to their full potential. This isn’t just good for the tree—it also ensures a better fruit yield. Willows can also be pollarded now. After all, an ecological garden is all about fostering a healthy and vibrant garden!
Is your garden ready for a makeover?
Just imagine: a garden teeming with life, where birds and butterflies feel at home and where you can enjoy peace and color. What would it be like if your garden were not only a feast for the eyes, but also had a positive impact on nature?
Maybe now is the time to think about what your garden needs. More structure? More flowering plants? Or perhaps a design that perfectly suits both your needs and the environment? With an ecological garden design, we’ll turn your garden into a place that lives, breathes, and inspires.
