De Paradijstuin,

Rebecca Pomerantz

De Paradijstuin is a design studio specializing in creating natural, sustainable gardens and planting plans that prioritize the use of native plants wherever possible. This philosophy contributes to a more balanced environment where people and beneficial wildlife, such as bees, butterflies, and hedgehogs, can coexist. Natural shapes and the (reuse of) sustainable materials play a key role in my designs, with the planting always taking center stage.

De Paradijstuin is located in Broek in Waterland, North Holland, just a stone’s throw from Amsterdam. In my own Paradijstuin (Paradise Garden), I test a wide variety of plant combinations and experiment with material choices to optimize my designs. Want to come and take a look? You’re welcome! From May to October, you can schedule an appointment to visit.

"I want to help you see your own garden through a new perspective and show you that, with a good design and minimal effort, a balanced ecosystem can thrive."

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a garden design cost?

How much a garden design or planting plan will cost you can easily calculate using this document: Price indication garden design and planting plan.

Who executes the design?

Basically, you can work with my design yourself. I can guide you in this and I can order the plants for you and then plant them (with you/you together). This is very fun and instructive to do together, because you will immediately hear and get all kinds of facts and tips from me. You immediately get a feel for what's in your garden and also how to maintain it.

Another option is to leave it to a professional landscaper. This is useful if, for example, a terrace or pond needs to be built, a shed or canopy needs to be constructed, or if soil needs to be supplied or moved. For the construction by a landscaper you should take into account €150 - €250 per m2.

If you want, I can help you find a good landscaper in your area.

What is the working area of the Paradise Garden?

The Paradise Garden's working area is all of the Netherlands.

How long does it take to complete a design?

From the intake where I visit you and the quote is no more than a week. After agreement on the quote I start working on the drawings and it takes about 4-6 weeks until we have a final design. But this depends entirely on the complexity of the job.

What do you all consider when designing my garden?

With several factors. The most important factor: what are your wishes for the garden? What are the functions you envision? Who all lives at home? In addition, I look at the design of your house, at the view of your garden and at how the garden faces the wind and the sun. But also the type of soil, the (micro) climate, the presence or absence of water, possible presence of surrounding natural areas and much more. All these factors are important to come to a good design.

What about the maintenance of my garden?

Maintaining your garden well, especially the first year, is the key to success for your plants to take root. When the plants are still small, it is important that you hoe and/or weed occasionally. This way you make sure weeds don't compete with your new plants. You will see that after that first year weeding will be much less necessary, because the bedding is so dense that weeds will have almost no chance.

Pruning trees and shrubs will only be necessary after 1 or 2 years. If you like it I can teach you a thing or two about it so you can do it yourself in the future.

Another option is to outsource the maintenance to a green space professional. I can put you in touch with that if you wish.
